Wendy's Everest trek for a cure
Wendy's Everest trek for a cure
Story
Hi everyone!
I am aiming to raise $4,000 for Cure Cancer Australia Foundation.
Most people I know have been impacted by cancer in some way. In my own life, my mother bravely fought and won her battle with cancer.
Cure Cancer Australia is a great charity that supports research into the possibility of finding a cure. With this challenge Cure Cancer are hoping to raise enough money to fund a talented young Australian researcher to continue their work in the quest for finding a cure.
I believe this is such an important cause that I have joined the 2012 Trek for a Cure to Everest Base Camp in Nepal to help raise money and awareness of this important cause and the great work that Cure Cancer do.
The challenge will involve 12 days of trekking so I'll need to follow a pretty strict fitness regime to help cope with the high-level of physical fitness needed to do this challenge.
To my supporters: your contribution is appreciated in so many ways and will help keep me motivated through the many hours of training I'll need to do for this challenge. Anything you can give, whether big or small will go towards helping find a cure.
A big thanks,
Wendy
***UPDATES***
19 October 2011: It's been another big few months of fundraising. Thanks to more market stalls I have raised another $630! This means I now need to raise a little over $1000 to hit my goal of $4000. (Unfortunately my fundraising isn't able to be reflected in the total at the top of this page - but it still all goes towards Cure Cancer so will form part of my fundraising goal). Thanks again to everyone who generously donated items or visited my stall and bought an item.
28 August 2011: Another big day of fundraising - this time with a stall at the North Rocks Sunday markets. Thanks to so many generous people I raised over $250.
21 August 2011: A huge day of fundraising at Manly markets yesterday! Thank you to everyone who dropped by my stall and who bought something. I raised over $400! Thanks too to everyone who donated something for me to sell.
18 August 2011: There's been an amazing breakthrough in cancer research in Australia: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-16/new-cancer-gene-discovered/2840810
It's thanks to the kindness of everyone below who has donated that we can fund brilliant Australian researchers to make these types of discoveries. Bring on a cure!
In other news: A special thanks to my brother Garry and sis-in-law Janet and to my friends Peter and Vini for their very special donations. Your generosity means so much.
15 June 2011: A BIG thank you to everyone at ninemsn who have been supporting my fundraising efforts by participating in my ongoing office baking madness - your gold coin donations have been much appreciated! We have so far raised over $200! While this total isn't able to be included in my total on this page the money will still form part of my $4,000 fundraising aim and be going directly to Cure Cancer Australia Foundation.
